*Cackling Goose is split from Canada Goose in the 45th Supplement

One of 3 possible hybrid Canada X Greater White-fronted
Geese present at Waneka Lake, Lafayette, Colorado, 11/29/02. Note dark
breast, white "front", and light bill, like GWFG. However, this
bird lacked the barring on the belly and the white lateral line of GWFG.
Not seen in this photo is an orange foot that I observed in another swimming
photo. |

Another possible hybrid Canada X Greater White-fronted
Goose, Waneka Lake, Lafayette, Colorado, 11/29/02. This one has a bit
more prominent cheek patch and breast patterning like a Canada Goose,
but a light bill and face patch more like a Greater White-fronted. Its
upper leg, not visible in this photo, appeared to be light gray. |
