Plants found on the alpine tundra
are often found nowhere else. They have adapted to harsh climate conditions
to survive. Remember that plants produce their own food using sunlight for
energy in a process called photosynthesis.
Enjoy tundra plants responsibly
when you visit- get down on your hands and knees to take a close look but
don't pick flowers and watch your step! Try to walk from rock to rock if you
leave the trail to avoid damage to these delicate beauties!
AND... Don't forget to bring a
plant/flower field guide with you on your tundra visit!

about some strategies that plants use to cope with the cold, windy, dry conditions
that lead to very short growing seasons.
